İstanbul Convention Call

İstanbul Convention Call photographs were taken during İstanbul Convention protest in Riga, happened on April 25, 2023. The protest was organized by women's organizations in Latvia, after a femicide in order to call the government to ratify İstanbul Convention.

İstanbul Convention is the convention prepared for preventing discrimination, domestic and all gender-based violence by Council of Europe, signed by 45 countries and European Union in İstanbul, Turkey on 2011, and ratified by 34 countries.

Veritably, femicide numbers were at its lowest in Turkey for last 20 years just after the year when İstanbul Convention was signed. However, unfortunately, the numbers increased due to government women policies in time which arrived at its highest level by rescission of the convention.

Today, women in Latvia, just like their sisters in Turkey, are calling authorities to take action for being a part of İstanbul Convention because we all know that femicide and violence are political and can be prevented.

*It is assumed that Istanbul Convention will be ratified by May 2024 in Latvia
